Gospel: Matthew 28:8-15

At that time: The women departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.” While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

Daily Gospel Reflection

1. Everything, including Jesus’ life and death, occurs in accordance with God’s will and designs. Death and the power of Satan have been vanquished by Christ. Deathless and spotless, he continues to be the victor. Peter declares this with audacity. Declaring that they are the witnesses to all of them, he attests to this.

2. Peace and blessings come from the resurrected Lord. When ladies see him, he bestows favors upon them. This benediction brings delight and banishes all concerns. Adoration emerges from it.

3. We share this same attitude of praise, enthusiasm, and fearlessness as his followers. As a result, we must also serve as witnesses for the Lord. We must spread the word about him to others. We must impart the same experience that we have had.

4. Nevertheless, this is not a simple process. It will put us in contrasting and difficult circumstances. We must be ready to confront them, persevere, and maintain our composure. These good experiences and testimony are contrasted in a number of ways in the second portion of the gospel.

5. There are chief priests and elders in opposition to the disciples, soldiers in opposition to the women, the false propaganda that they had taken Jesus’ body in opposition to the reality that he has risen, and the allure of money in opposition to Christ’s power.
