Psalter: Week 3
Here are the Catholic Mass readings and a daily Gospel reflection for Saturday, October 10, 2026. Paul says all who belong to Christ are clothed in Him, and a woman in the crowd blesses the mother of Jesus.
Catholic Mass Readings
Readings of the Day
First Reading: Galatians 3:22-29
Brethren: The Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.
Psalm 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7 (R. 8a)
R/. The Lord remembers his covenant forever. or: Alleluia.
Gospel Acclamation
V/. Alleluia
R/. Alleluia
V/. Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.
R/. Alleluia
Gospel: Luke 11:27-28
At that time: As Jesus said these things, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”

Daily Gospel Reflection
Main Point: A woman in the crowd shouts a blessing on Jesus’ mother. He answers with a wider blessing, one that Mary holds first of all, and one that is open to you and me as well.
1. It is a small moment, only two verses, easy to pass over. As Jesus is teaching, a woman in the crowd is so moved that she calls out, blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you. A warm, spontaneous cry of praise for His mother.
2. Jesus answers, rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it. For a careless second this can sound as if He is pushing His mother aside. He is not. Remember who, in this very Gospel of Luke, heard the word of God and kept it more completely than anyone. Let it be done to me according to your word.
3. Mary is blessed first of all not simply because she carried Him in her body, but because she received God’s word and lived it to the end. Jesus is not lowering His mother. He is naming the deepest reason she is blessed, and then holding that same blessedness open to everyone who is listening.
4. Because this is a blessing we can share. We cannot be the mother of Jesus. But we can do the very thing that made her blessed: hear the word of God and keep it. The door Mary walked through stands open to us too.
5. Hear it, and keep it. Both. We can hear the word endlessly, in homilies, in reading, in videos, and never keep it, never let it change one ordinary day. The blessing is not in the hearing alone. It is in the keeping, the quiet obedience that takes the word home and lives it.
6. So the blessing Jesus names is within reach on this plain Saturday. Nothing spectacular. Just this: hear what God says to you, and do it. That is how an ordinary soul becomes, in the only way that will finally matter, blessed.
My Practice: Take one word of God you have heard and not yet kept, one thing you already know He is asking of you, and simply do it today. That is the whole of the blessing Jesus names.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, a woman blessed Your mother, and You answered by opening that blessing to all of us who hear God’s word and keep it. Thank You that Your mother is blessed above all, and that the path of her blessedness is one we may walk too. Guard us from being hearers only, moved for a moment and changed in nothing. Give us the grace to keep what we hear, to take Your word home and live it in the small and ordinary hours. In that quiet obedience, make us blessed, as she was blessed. Amen.
Question to Reflect Today
- What is one word of God you have heard clearly but not yet kept, and will you do it today?
Thank You 🙏🙏🙏
